A Lesson from Bhagwat Geeta

So, I was watching this youtube audio where Lord Krishna was giving the knowledge of Bhagwat Geeta to Arjun. Amid all the good things that were taught, one thing in particular strung a chord with me.

So, the quote talks about fruits of your work. One should NEVER expect fruits of the work he is committed to. It does not mean his work will not ripe fruits but it means it is wrong to expect a reward or a prize for his work.

Such expectations are dangerous. The expectation lead to wish. A wish if does not come true will cause dissatisfaction or discontent. The lack of satisfaction will cause anger and anger will further lead to a lust. Such a person will lose his way and make sins. Such a person is destined to perish.

Why is it important to work and not just give up everything and become a hermit?

Well to start, to believe that all human beings are good is a fool’s proposition. Every person has a soul and when that soul would become too attached to the earthly body, then he will lose hid dharma for selfish gains. Such a person will treat other people badly and will be tempted by greed and gluttony. It is important to know that having expectations to get reward for work is the starting point to lose one’s way of dharma. Such a person may always be aware of Dharma, of the right thing to do but still be overwhelmed by his desires to do the sin. Sin basically means to miss the mark. And anyone who loses the way of Dharma is a sinner.

Thus it becomes the responsibility of people who know the Dharma to continue their work so that they are the ones who influence the world of future and not let the world run by people with monovalence intent. Karma, that is, to work and Dharma goes hand in hand.
